Mel Lockhart is an incredible talent holding down the lead guitar position for Desert Edge! Mel recently relocated to San Diego by way of Southern Colorado. He has been playing, recording and arranging music for over 45 years on guitar, bass, keys and even drums! Mel has performed with artists such as the late Michael Hedges, Phyllis Diller and Don Ellis. He has played for numerous music festivals nationwide such as the Boulder Blues Festival, Capital Hill Peoples Fair, Six Flags Pavillion over Mid-America to crowds up to 100,000 people. Mel's passions are his wife, family, writing music, and fabricating guitars and other electronic gadgets. He is on staff at a local high school in the music department.
When he is not shredding that lonesome sound, he's spending time with his children and the family cat, a White Turkish Angora, which Mel affectionately calls 'Johnny Winter'. Lee was born and raised in a small Indiana town and his music influences ranged from Queen and Boston to Metallica and Ozzy. In his early 20's, Lee hitchhiked to Arizona to work the club circuit, playing everything from Kansas to Rush. With a solid tone, thumping and inventive bass fills, he worked hard and developed his creative skills. The nickname 'Riffter' was inevitable. Lee produces powerful riffs, has an active and animated stage presence and blasts thundering bass tones that drive the music.

Born in Bakersfield, CA, Ron is a self-taught guitarist since age 15 and was formally taught piano starting at age 7. He has become an artist with both instruments since then. His first public band was The Blue Lights in 1966. He helped form the Underground Railway Band in 1967 which not only had many radio sponsorships, but also played in front of a crowd of 2,000 people at Bakersfield Civic Auditorium in a Battle of the Bands competition and won Best Band in category at the Rose Garden, Pismo Beach, CA, 1967. In 1971, he also helped form the band “Canyon” which was a popular San Diego band to be seen at the GRB in Del Mar, CA and many other venues until 1974.

Ron has a degree in Marketing and is a professional carpenter by trade, a husband and a father when he isn’t playing music. He celebrated his 38th wedding anniversary in 2015!
His interests and hobbies include his dogs, pro sports, playing blackjack, finding great, new restaurants, movies, and attending concerts. Greg Smith was born and raised in San Francisco. For his 11th birthday his parents took a chance and bought him a professional quality Ludwig drum kit which he still plays today. Greg spent time learning his craft in band, orchestra, and stage band throughout Jr.
High and High School. He was musically influenced by the early 60's bands like the Beatles as well as the later 60's and 70's bands like Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Yes, and Steely Dan.
He met his wife and moved to Sacramento in the 90s where he served on worship teams, played in blues and cover bands, and recorded and performed with a Johnny Cash/Patsy Cline tribute for over 3 years. Upon relocating to San Diego in mid-2011 he found a local Journey tribute that was forming. He performed with that band for over 3 years, during which time he also played and recorded with local indie band The Flowerthief. After leaving the Journey band he joined Bandalier, a local prog rock act. Most recently he began performing with Greg White Jr. In Desert Edge. Melissa Barrison is a graduate from Point Loma Nazarene University with a degree in music and concentration in education.
She has studied classically for over 17 years and ventured out into various styles from classical, fiddle/bluegrass, jazz, rock, to gypsy, blues, reggae and more. She is currently a member of the San Diego City Ballet Orchestra and La Jolla Strings Ensemble.
She has performed in numerous venues all throughout southern California such as the LA Staples Center (NBA All Star Game Half Time Show), Anaheim Honda Center (NHL Pre-Game Show), San Diego House of Blues, 4th and B, Casbah and countless other venues and festivals. Melissa has appeared on Ellen Degeneres and the Marie Osmond show and played for artists such as Rihanna, Future of Forestry, Louis XIV, opened for CeeLo Green, Pepper, POD and The Killers.
For the last eight years, Melissa has been an active member in the worship arts ministry at The Rock Church, The Flood, Venture, Canyon Springs and many other churches around San Diego. A native of Miami, Florida, John began playing harmonica at age 19 while at FSU in Tallahassee, Florida. Some years and a few moves later, he began playing with bands in Greensboro, N.C, eventually playing with a blues group in Memphis which played almost every venue on Beale street including BB King's and Blues Hall. He has recorded at Sun Studios, Ardent Studios, Young Avenue Sound, and Royal Studios, all in Memphis, as well as Greensboro Sound in Greensboro, NC. Since moving to San Diego he has played with more vocally oriented, acoustic groups, and recently, country bands Valor and Lace, and Desert Edge Band. Smart zipper pro mac cracked technic launcher.
The alternative CCM group Smalltown Poets was formed in Tifton, GA. By singer/guitarist Michael Johnston, keyboardist Danny Stephens and drummer Byron Goggin, high school pals who'd played in bands together throughout their formative years (including Villanelle, which released an independent-label album titled Pinwheels and Orange Peels in 1996).
In the spring of 1996, the lineup grew to include guitarist Kevin Breuner and bassist Miguel DeJesus; a year later, the Smalltown Poets signed to Chordant to issue their self-titled debut album. A series of lineup changes followed before the group - now consisting of Johnston, Breuner, DeJesus and drummer Nathan Blackstone - resurfaced with Listen Closely in 1999 and Third Verse in fall 2000. The band started in 2006 and released its self-titled debut EP in 2006 under Credential Recordings (EMI). Their first full-length album, Twilight, appeared in 2007, but for the next several years, Owyoung and his collaborators focused on a series of EPs, the Travel series, with three volumes released between 2009 and 2010. Another EP series, Advent, devoted to -themed music, debuted in 2008, with additional installments appearing in 2010 and 2013. In 2011, the Travel series was collected on a single album, The Complete Travel Series, while the same year, the group issued another compilation, A Film and TV Collection, a limited-edition sampler of music Owyoung created for visual media. For the 2012 album, Young Man Follow, Owyoung launched his own label, Sound Swan Records. He also opened his own studio, Utopia Road Studios, where he worked on Future of Forestry projects as well as recording and mixing work for other artists.

The following years yielded a 2014 release of the Piano & Strings Sessions, an EP of rearranged Future of Forestry songs orchestrated for piano, strings, and vocals only. In April 2015 an acoustic duet album called 'Pages' was released as a surprise to fans on Future of Forestry's website and on iTunes. Pages was then later released on vinyl as the band's first vinyl pressing. In 2016 the band released Awakened to the Sound.
